Hondy Tips For Getting Around
Getting around by Car
The Zoo operates on a 6km one-way circuit system, with the animal exhibits and picnic grounds situated along the route. Most exhibits can be seen from the road, but a few require you to walk a short distance. The Zoo circuit is a public road and normal road rules apply at all times.
Getting around by Bike
An ideal way to experience the Zoo is by bike or on foot. Bikes are available for hire, but visitors are welcome to bring their own. While the Zoo also provides helmets, it is recommended that visitors bring their own where possible.
The Zoo does not take bookings for hire bikes, and as some specialty bikes are in high demand during weekends and school holidays visitors should enquire at the hire shed upon arrival to arrange the best option.
It is important to remember that the Zoo circuit is a public road and normal road rules apply at all times.
The first half of the Zoo circuit has a slight incline, but otherwise it is reasonably flat. During the warmer months be sure to bring sunscreen, a hat and drink plenty of water.

Getting around by Cart
Electric carts are available for hire. Like the bikes, on the Zoo does not take bookings on hire carts. Carts are in high demand during weekends and school holidays, so we recommend that visitors enquire about their availability at the hire shed upon arrival at the Zoo.
Opening times
Open every day of the year, including Christmas Day from 9am to 4pm.
Getting to Taronga Western Plains Zoo
Although Taronga Western Plains Zoo is only a five to six hour drive from Sydney, Canberra and Newcastle, there's so much to see and do on the way that we recommend you take it nice and slowly.
