What you need to know

Jump on a bike, strap up your helmet and begin a two-wheel adventure around the beautiful Otago region on the Queenstown Trail. There are a total of seven scenic trails around the region to help you explore some of the best sights. The Lake Wakatipu Ride will take you around the shoreline of this famous Lake, Jack's Point Ride continues on from that to lead you on a 12 kilometre journey to the scenic Jack's Point; the Twin Rivers Ride is split into three sections totalling up to 19 kilometres, from Kawarau Falls Bridge to Lower Shotover Bridge and through Shotover Country.

Heading further inland, the Countryside Ride will take you on a scenic journey for 12 kilometres to reach Arrowtown village; the Arrow River Bridges Ride zig zags for 16 kilometres over seven bridges in the area; the Gibbston River Trail will lead you out to the beautiful wine and cheese region and lastly the Lake Hayes Circuit is an 8 kilometre loop around Lake Hayes.

Out of all the above mentioned trails, the Lake Wakatipu, Arrow River Bridges and Gibbston River Ride are best suited for riders looking for easy trails, intermediate level trails include the Twin Rivers Ride from Kawarau Falls Bridge to Morven Ferry Road, the Countryside Ride and the Lake Hays Circuit, while those eager to try the advanced trails should aim for the Jack's Point Ride.

If you don't have access to a bike, you can also walk or run the tracks to experience the beauty of the greater Queenstown region. Additionally, there are plenty of bike hire options in Queenstown.
