What you need to know

A place of cultural and historic significance, Kerikeri Mission Station was established in 1819 and is still standing strong today. One of the country's first site where Māori invited European immigrants to settle amongst them, the Station's buildings are now a place where visitors can learn about the the hidden lives of the locals, both Māori and European.

With local guides touring the grounds to teach visitors about its history and importance to the region, the Station is bursting with things to do. Even the young ones will be catered to with the Children's Chores Tour running at 11am daily and offering the kids a hands-on look into what life was once like in the area.

Some of the main highlights in the area include Stone Store; a former trading post, library, barracks and boys' school, Kemp House; the oldest building in New Zealand and a Georgian designed family home, and the Heritage Gardens and Orchards; growing for the last 200 years, it is the country's oldest European garden.
