What you need to know

Travelling through the Tongariro Forest Conservation Area in the North Island, 42 Travers is a popular multi-use track. Stretching 46 kilometres one way, the track is mainly used for mountain bikers seeking a challenge but it also used for horse riding, motor bike riding and hiking. Users of the trail are asked to be mindful of other visitors and to share the tracks with consideration.

It takes around 4 to 7 hours to complete the 42 Traverse by bike as this grade 3 trail takes riders on a journey through one of the oldest national parks in NZ's North Island. The trail journeys through native forest and a canyon valley while presenting incredible views of the Tongariro National Park volcanoes. Every year the region holds a popular event called the T42 Central Plateau which sees mountain bikers, runners and walkers competing in a number of different races over the course of one day.
